The Pros and Cons of Using Refill Inkjet Cartridges

PROS

There are many advantages to using refill inkjet cartridges instead of buying new ones every time your printer flashes that frustrating message, "Out of Ink"! The primary advantage is the economical savings you'll experience as a result of using a refill ink cartridge instead of having to buy a new one each time you run out of ink. You can refill your own for less than half the price of buying a new printer cartridge, particularly for the more expensive printer brands - including Epson, HP, Canon and Dell.

In addition to saving money by using a refill instead of a new cartridge, you can do your part to help our environment. Recycling is an important topic, and it's important that everyone do their part to help reuse and recycle products that can be recycled to reduce the amount of waste we put back on our land.

If you use a Dell printer, you know that you can only buy your ink cartridges through Dell. That means you have to remember to plan ahead since you can't just run out to the "Dell store" like you could the local Walmart or office supply store! What happens when you don't have an extra cartridge lying around and you run out of ink - just as you need to print something?

With Dell ink, another advantage of using a refill is that you can simply add more ink to your existing cartridge, load it back into your printer and start printing again.

CONS

Although there are numerous advantages to using refill cartridges, there are a few disadvantages as well. Some refilling processes might cause air bubbles to form inside the cartridge. While you will be able to print using the refilled cartridge, sometimes the pages might have ink spots and bubbles in the printing due to these air pockets.

The actual process of refilling your cartridge can be extremely messy, especially if you don't have access to specialized inkjet cartridge refill machines. Many of the refill kits contain a vial of ink and a syringe-like instrument. You pull the ink into the syringe, and then push it into the tiny hole on your inkjet cartridge. You need to refill it slowly, or you'll end up wearing the majority of the ink.
